NEWPORT-The 2009-10 Cocke County Elementary School basketball season is off and running, tipping off this past Monday night, November 2, with Bridgeport at Del Rio, Smoky Mountain at Cosby, Centerview at Northwest and Parrottsville at Grassy Fork.

The Lady Falcons were way too much for the Lady Patriots in this one. The Lady Falcons blitzed the Lady Patriots 28-0 in the first quarter, and never looked back, leading 45-1 at the break, 47-1 at the end of three and cruising home with the 47-point victory. Leah Lewandowski had a game-high 14 points to lead the Lady Falcons while Markisha Allen had 2 points to lead the Lady Patriots.
Centerview (50): Leah Lewandowski 14, Hannah Miller 12, Kaitlynn Fine 8, Hayley Miller 7, Haley Burke 5, Brooke Holt 2, Kaylee Reed 2.

This was a nip-and-tuck contest right down to the final buzzer. The Patriots held the upper hand early, leading 11-8 at the end of the first quarter. The Falcons pulled to within one, 19-18, at the break, and still trailed the Patriots by one, 29-28, heading into the final quarter. The Falcons out-scored the Patriots 14-10 over the final six minutes, however, to get the hard-earned three-point victory. Collin White had a game-high 24 points to lead the Falcons while Francisco Torres had 13 points to pace the Patriots.

NEWPORT-It was round two of the Cocke County elementary school basketball season this past Thursday night at four locations. On the schedule were Northwest at Edgemont, Centerview hosting Grassy Fork, Cosby at Parrottsville and Bridgeport at Smoky Mountain.

The Lady Ravens jumped on the Lady Falcons early, but the Lady Falcons made a strong comeback in the second half. The Lady Ravens flew out to a 12-2 first quarter lead, and made it an 11-point advantage, 20-9, at the break. The Lady Ravens still had a comfortable lead after three, 28-15, but the Lady Falcons were everywhere in the fourth quarter. The Lady Falcons outscored the Lady Ravens 13-3 over the final six minutes, but the Lady Ravens managed to hang on for the three-point victory. Peyton Johnson and Wendy McGaha each had 8 points to lead the Lady Ravens while Leah Lewandowski had a game-high 16 points to lead the Lady Falcons.

The Ravens held the early advantage in this one, but the Falcons came on strong over the final two quarters. The Ravens flew out to a 12-6 first quarter lead, and led 24-16 at the break. But, the Falcons pulled to within two, 26-24, at the end of three, and outscored the Ravens 14-1 down the stretch for the 11-point victory. Colin White had a game-high 11 points to lead the Falcons while Keenan Phillips and Thomas Edwards each had 9 points to lead the Ravens.

NEWPORT-Cocke County's elementary school basketball squads were back on the hardwood this past Monday, November 9, with Del Rio playing at Centerview, Parrottsville at Smoky Mountain, Bridgeport at Home to Northwest and Edgemont playing at Grassy Fork.

The Lady Falcons flew off the opening tip, and left the Lady Trojans in their wake. The Lady Falcons led 15-7 at the end of the first quarter and 33-16 at the break. The Lady Falcons led 47-22 at the end of three and glided home with the 30-point victory. Hannah Miller had a game-high 20 points to lead the Lady Falcons while Sarah Conard had eight points to lead the Lady Trojans.

The Trojans were on cruise control until late when the Falcons tried to make a comeback. The Trojans led 13-4 at the end of one and 26-16 at the break. The Trojan lead was 11, 35-24, heading into the final stanza. The Falcons outscored the Trojans 16-13 over the final six minutes, but it wasn't enough as the Trojans came away with the eight-point victory. Hunter Phillips had a game-high 15 points to lead the Trojans while Adam Loyd had 12 points to lead the Falcons.
