NEWPORT-The 2009-10 Cocke County Elementary School basketball season is off and running, tipping off this past Monday night, November 2, with Bridgeport at Del Rio, Smoky Mountain at Cosby, Centerview at Northwest and Parrottsville at Grassy Fork.

This is a big rivalry, but the Lady Bears couldn't find a way to stop the Lady Eagles' Tasha Ball. The Lady Eagles held a 6-3 first quarter lead, and made it 10-6 at the break. But Ball exploded for 17 second-half points to boost the Lady Eagles to a 24-11 third quarter lead, and eventually the 18-point victory. Ball finished with a game-high 25 points for the Lady Eagles while Cyara Williams had 13 points to pace the Lady Bears.

The Smoky Bears established themselves early, and the Eagles couldn't manage to keep up. The Smoky Bears led 13-8 at the end of the first quarter, and 26-8 at the break. It was 37-15 Smoky Bears at the end of three before they cruised home with the 31-point victory. Max Weeks had a game-high 14 points for the Smoky Bears while Brody Williams had 5 points to lead the Eagles.

NEWPORT-It was round two of the Cocke County elementary school basketball season this past Thursday night at four locations. On the schedule were Northwest at Edgemont, Centerview hosting Grassy Fork, Cosby at Parrottsville and Bridgeport at Smoky Mountain.

The Lady Eagles came out pushing, and the Lady Parrotts just couldn't manage to get close. The Lady Eagles jumped out to a 14-8 first quarter lead, and then made it 26-13 at the break. The Lady Eagles' lead remained 13, 30-17, after three. A late game surge by the Lady Parrotts wasn't enough as the Lady Eagles came away with the eight-point victory. Tasha Ball had a game-high 17 points to lead the Lady Eagles while Twylah Fobber had 8 points to pace the Lady Parrotts.

It appeared the Parrotts would run away with this one, but the Eagles tried a big second-half comeback. The Parrotts flew out to a 14-6 first quarter lead, and made it a 14-point advantage, 31-17, at the break. The Eagles pulled to within six, 38-32, at the end of three, but the Parrotts managed to hang on for the five-point victory. Seth Lovell and Ike Rouleau each had a game-high 17 points to lead the Parrotts while Jordan Carpenter had 13 points to lead the Eagles.

NEWPORT-It was Round Four of the Cocke County elementary school basketball season this past Thursday night, and the season is in full throttle.
On Thursday, games were played at four locations with Centerview playing at Edgemont, Northwest at home to Smoky Mountain, Cosby at Bridgeport and Parrottsville hosting Del Rio.

The Lady Rockets found a way to slow the Lady Eagles offense. The Lady Rockets led 10-7 at the end of the first quarter, and built their lead to 11, 21-10, at the break. The Lady Rockets kept up their strong defense and held the Lady Eagles to just four second-half points. The Lady Rockets led 32-12 at the end of three and cruised home with the 26-point victory. Courtney Cox had a game-high 12 points to lead the Lady Rockets while Tasha Ball had seven points to lead the Lady Eagles.

The Rockets sent Bridgeport fans home happy by completing the sweep of Cosby on this night. The Rockets trailed 7-6 at the end of the first quarter but came on to take an 18-10 lead at the break. The Rockets led 30-17 at the end of three, and put up 15 points in the final stanza for the 22-point victory. Patrick Hurst had a game-high 16 points to lead the Rockets while Brody Williams and Michael Kagel each had six points to lead the Eagles.
