NEWPORT-The 2009-10 Cocke County Elementary School basketball season is off and running, tipping off this past Monday night, November 2, with Bridgeport at Del Rio, Smoky Mountain at Cosby, Centerview at Northwest and Parrottsville at Grassy Fork.

The Lady Falcons were way too much for the Lady Patriots in this one. The Lady Falcons blitzed the Lady Patriots 28-0 in the first quarter, and never looked back, leading 45-1 at the break, 47-1 at the end of three and cruising home with the 47-point victory. Leah Lewandowski had a game-high 14 points to lead the Lady Falcons while Markisha Allen had 2 points to lead the Lady Patriots.

This was a nip-and-tuck contest right down to the final buzzer. The Patriots held the upper hand early, leading 11-8 at the end of the first quarter. The Falcons pulled to within one, 19-18, at the break, and still trailed the Patriots by one, 29-28, heading into the final quarter. The Falcons out-scored the Patriots 14-10 over the final six minutes, however, to get the hard-earned three-point victory. Collin White had a game-high 24 points to lead the Falcons while Francisco Torres had 13 points to pace the Patriots.

NEWPORT-It was round two of the Cocke County elementary school basketball season this past Thursday night at four locations. On the schedule were Northwest at Edgemont, Centerview hosting Grassy Fork, Cosby at Parrottsville and Bridgeport at Smoky Mountain.

The Lady Panthers were simply way too much for the Lady Patriots on this night. The Lady Panthers led 26-0 after the first quarter and 41-0 at the break and never looked back. Taylor Thornton had a game-high 12 points to lead the Lady Panthers while Markisha Allen accounted for all six of the Lady Patriots' points.

The Purple Panthers jumped on the Patriots early, and refused to let the visitors play catch-up. The Panthers leaped out to a 12-2 first quarter lead, and made it 28-7 at the break. The Patriots turned up their offense a bit in the second half, but it wasn't enough. The Panthers led 41-16 after three, and cruised home with the 30-point victory. Chandler Duckett and Michael Hood each had a game-high 12 points for the Panthers while Kinsler Rea and Francisco Torres each had 7 points to pace the Patriots.

The Lady Rockets blasted off to an 18-3 first quarter lead over the Lady Patriots and never looked back, leading 36-3 at the break, 41-5 at the end of three and cruising home with the 34-point victory. Allison Frazier had a game-high 10 points to lead the Lady Rockets while Markisha Allen had three points to lead the Lady Patriots.

This one turned out to be a nail biter in the end. The Patriots held the early edge, leading the Rockets 18-9 at the end of the first quarter. The Rockets, however, started chipping away at the Patriots' lead, and trailed by four, 27-23, at the break. The Patriots were hanging on, and still led 46-43 at the end of three. But, the Rockets came on strong down the stretch, outscoring the Patriots 12-7 over the final six minutes to claim the two-point victory. Clint Ramsey had a game-high 27 points to lead the Rockets while Barren Pruitt had 14 points to lead a balanced Patriot attack.

On Thursday, games were played at four locations with Centerview playing at Edgemont, Northwest at home to Smoky Mountain, Cosby at Bridgeport and Parrottsville hosting Del Rio.

The Lady Bears were off and running, and the Lady Patriots simply couldn't slow them down. The Lady Bears led 20-1 at the end of the first quarter and 30-5 at the break. With coach Rob Napieralski clearing his bench, the Lady Bears led 35-13 after three and rambled home with the 23-point victory. Cyara Williams had 15 points to lead the Lady Bears while Markisha Allen had a game-high 17 points to pace the Lady Patriots.

The Smoky Bears were popping the Patriots early and often, leading 20-4 after the first quarter, 34-11 at the break, 50-18 after three and then cruising home with the 31-point victory. Max Weeks had a game-high 20 points to lead the Smoky Bears while Kinsler Rhea had 15 points to pace the Patriots.
