NEWPORT-The 2009-10 Cocke County Elementary School basketball season is off and running, tipping off this past Monday night, November 2, with Bridgeport at Del Rio, Smoky Mountain at Cosby, Centerview at Northwest and Parrottsville at Grassy Fork.

The Lady Ravens were simply too much for the Lady Parrotts on this night. The Lady Ravens flew out to a 9-1 first quarter lead, and made it 23-6 at the break. The Lady Ravens made it 34-12 at the end of three, and glided home with the 29-point victory. Wendy McGaha had a game-high 15 points to lead the Lady Ravens while Abbie Ramsey and Elizabeth Walker each had 4 points to pace the Lady Parrotts.
Grassy Fork (47): Wendy McGaha 15, Dessie Shaffer 13, Katie Lanzon 10, Julie McGaha 5, Kristan Coggins 2, Peyton Johnson 2.

The Parrotts flew out to an 18-6 first quarter lead and never looked back, leading 33-19 at the break, 42-23 after three and gliding home with the 17-point victory. Ike Rouleau had a game-high 20 points to pace the Parrotts while Thomas Edwards finished with 12 points to lead the Ravens.

NEWPORT-It was round two of the Cocke County elementary school basketball season this past Thursday night at four locations. On the schedule were Northwest at Edgemont, Centerview hosting Grassy Fork, Cosby at Parrottsville and Bridgeport at Smoky Mountain.

The Lady Eagles came out pushing, and the Lady Parrotts just couldn't manage to get close. The Lady Eagles jumped out to a 14-8 first quarter lead, and then made it 26-13 at the break. The Lady Eagles' lead remained 13, 30-17, after three. A late game surge by the Lady Parrotts wasn't enough as the Lady Eagles came away with the eight-point victory. Tasha Ball had a game-high 17 points to lead the Lady Eagles while Twylah Fobber had 8 points to pace the Lady Parrotts.

It appeared the Parrotts would run away with this one, but the Eagles tried a big second-half comeback. The Parrotts flew out to a 14-6 first quarter lead, and made it a 14-point advantage, 31-17, at the break. The Eagles pulled to within six, 38-32, at the end of three, but the Parrotts managed to hang on for the five-point victory. Seth Lovell and Ike Rouleau each had a game-high 17 points to lead the Parrotts while Jordan Carpenter had 13 points to lead the Eagles.

NEWPORT-Cocke County's elementary school basketball squads were back on the hardwood this past Monday, November 9, with Del Rio playing at Centerview, Parrottsville at Smoky Mountain, Bridgeport at Home to Northwest and Edgemont playing at Grassy Fork.

This was a tight contest until the fourth quarter. The Lady Parrotts held a slim one-point advantage, 11-10, over the Lady Bears at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Bears managed to slip past the Lady Parrotts for an 18-16 lead at the break. But, the Lady Parrotts came back to take a 26-25 lead heading into the final quarter. The Lady Bears tightened the screws defensively, and turned it up a notch on offense to pull away with a nine-point victory. Cyara Williams had a game-high 19 points to lead the Lady Bears while Elizabeth Walker had 14 points to pace the Lady Parrotts.

The Smoky Bears were too much to handle for the Parrotts on this night. The Smoky Bears jumped out to a 16-9 first quarter lead, and made it 32-17 at the Break. The Smoky Bears were still rolling in the second half, leading 41-19 at the end of three, and cruising home with the 29-point victory. Max Weeks had a game-high 17 points to lead the Smoky Bears while D.J. Holt and Ike Rouleau each had five points to pace the Parrotts.

NEWPORT-It was Round Four of the Cocke County elementary school basketball season this past Thursday night, and the season is in full throttle.
On Thursday, games were played at four locations with Centerview playing at Edgemont, Northwest at home to Smoky Mountain, Cosby at Bridgeport and Parrottsville hosting Del Rio.

The Lady Parrotts had control of the game early, but the Lady Trojans saved their best for last. The Lady Parrotts led 8-7 at the end of the first quarter and pushed their lead to 8, 17-9, at the break. The Lady Parrotts appeared on their way to victory, leading by 13, 30-17, heading into the final six minutes. But the Lady Trojans tightened the screws on defense, and out-scored the Lady Parrotts 17-2 over the final quarter to pull out a dramatic 34-32 come-from-behind victory. Del Rio's Autumn Stokely and Parrottsville's Elizabeth Walker shared game-high scoring honors, each finishing with 17.
